Award winning creator Ava DuVernay will be celebrated for her contributions as a director, writer, and producer by the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History.
DuVernay has captivated us with such hit films as Selma, 13th, and When They See Us. Now, she’ll be presented with the 10th Great Americans Medal for her contributions as a director, writer, producer and movie distributor.
On May 8, the California native will receive the specially minted 14-karat gold medal for her incredible ability to present American ideas, while challenging societal norms and bringing to light America’s complex past.
