A 15-year-old boy is facing charges after a mail carrier was shot and killed while working her route in Chicago.

On Monday (September 30), the 15-year-old suspect was arrested on charges of first-degree murder in connection to the July shooting death of Octavia Redmond, 48, per PEOPLE.

Redmond was in front of a home in Chicago's West Pullman neighborhood on July 19 when she was shot multiple times. The shooter fled the scene in a vehicle.

Authorities said investigators were able to "identify and chase the movements" of the teenage suspect through police and private camera footage. An anonymous tip also helped lead police to the suspect.

According to reports, Redmond had worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 15 years.

Community member Kim Sanders previously said Redmond “was like a mother to the neighborhood.”

“My heart is shattered because she was a nice lady,” Sanders said at the time of Redmond's death. “She'd just come up and down the block and deliver the mail, didn’t bother nobody.”

A GoFundMe campaign launched by Redmond's family has raised over $8,000 to help cover funeral expenses.
